Western Christian Advocate - October 23, 1880
Mrs,. Eliza C. Wallace, whose maiden name was Bond, was born on November 20, 1827, in Habersham County, Ga., was married to Mr. John Wallace, of Forsyth County, Ga., on November 25th, 1851, and died in peace in Lumpkin County, Ga., on the 21st day of June, 1880, and her mortal remains were interred in the cemetery at Dahlonega, in presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends.
The deceased leaves surviving her a heart-stricken husband and five children; also an aged mother more than ninety years old, who, from age and infirmity, is scarcely conscious that Eliza, her youngest and last child, has been taken from her. Mrs, Wallace was a sister of Rev. W. M. D. Bond, of the North Georgia Conference and of Rev. Elias P. Bond, deceased, last of Dawson County, Ga.; also half-sister of John W. Hughes, of Dawsonville, Rev. Goodman Hughes of Dahlonega; Rev. T. M. Hughes, of Blairsville, Ga. Indeed, she belonged to one of the most numerous and respectable families of North Ga.
The writer has known her from her girlhood to the day of her death, has seen her in comparative prosperity, and in graet adversity, but never yet saw any change in the equanimity of her mind or purpose. Some months before the war, with the hope of improving his condition, her husband went to the far West in search of gold, leving the wife alone with her aged mother and children. After the war ensued, the husband attempted to return home, but was intercepted by the military authorities, and remained from home several years, during all of which time, deceased exercised the patience of Job, and the heroic courage of a Napoleon. She professed religion at the Lumpkin Campground, in youth; joined the M. E. Church, and like Enoch, walked with God during her pilgrimage. Her end was calm and peaceful. Doubtless she now rests in the boson of God. Her stricken husband and most of her relatives are members of the same Church and confidently expect to meet her in heaven.
